Walking holidays in north Wales

North Wales is a great place for a walking holiday, with all kinds of terrain from flat tarmac, way-marked paths, woodland trails along the flat and up steep hills.

Snowdonia offers some of the biggest challenges although you can go one way (or even both) by train.

There are circular trails, long distance footpaths and may locally devised wals that can be found from the Internet, walking books or published by tourist information offices on arrival.

Just choose a lovely part of north Wales for your holiday and plan your walking and events around your stay.

One of the pleasures of walking is stopping at pubs and tea shops en-route or at the end of a walk.

Be prepared for walking in north Wales

All regular walkers know about the kit they require for safe walking in the hills. Essentially you require suitable footwear such as lightweight walking boots and good socks that won't give you blisters, or at least trainers, a mobile phone to be able to call for help, clothing for all weathers, a backpack with a drink and some high energy food.

Depending on how far you plan to walk, take plasters in case of blisters, spare socks in case you fall into any peat bogs or large puddles, a hat in sunny weather, pain killers or any other medication you regularly take in case you are delayed.

Serious walkers would carry a compass, detailed maps and probably a lot more.
